Xenical is used in the treatment of obesity. Xenical decreases the absorption of fats in the intestine, causing a loss in weight. The undigested fat is excreted via the bowels. For best results Xenical should be combined with a healthy calorie-restricted diet and regular exercise. Thirty percent of the calorie-restricted diet should contain fat, with the balance being made up of proteins and carbohydrates. Ask your doctor for advice on a healthy eating plan.
Xenical comes in capsule form to be taken orally. The usual dose is one capsule three times a day with food. Never increase or decrease the dosage of Xenical without speaking to your doctor.
If a dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as you remember, as long as it does not clash with the next scheduled dose. In this case, rather skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose.
Xenical may reduce your body’s ability to absorb vitamins and minerals. Your doctor may therefore recommend you use a multivitamin supplement while taking Xenical. The supplement must contain vitamins D, E, K and beta-carotene. The vitamin supplement should be taken once a day at least two hours prior to a dose of Xenical.
