Protonix is a short-term treatment for ulceration and erosion of the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux. The usual duration for treatment is 7-10 days. Protonix is also prescribed to treat conditions related to Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Protonix is to be used in strict accordance with a doctor’s directions. Protonix should be taken with food to avoid stomach upsets. Do not take Protonix within four hours of using imidazoles, e.g. ketoconazole.
If you miss a dose of Protonix contact your doctor. Never take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Protonix can cause dizziness which may worsen if taken with alcohol and other medications. Protonix is to be used with caution. In the early stages of treatment do not drive or perform any potentially dangerous activity in case of an adverse reaction. If symptoms persist, or worsen, contact a doctor immediately. Protonix should only be used by the person for whom it was prescribed. Never increase or decrease the dosage without your doctor’s permission.
