Premarin is used to treat breast cancer in its advanced stages. It is also prescribed to treat a number of post-menopausal symptoms that include vaginal itching, dryness and burning, as well as hot flashes. The estrogen in Premarin also helps prevent osteoporosis after menopause. Premarin is also used to treat advanced cases of prostrate cancer in men, as well as a number of other medical conditions as determined by a doctor.
Premarin should be taken with food. For best results take the dose at the same time every day. Your doctor will prescribe the correct dose for you. If you are planning to undergo surgery, stop using Premarin 4-6 weeks before the surgery is scheduled.
If a dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as you remember, as long as it does not clash with the next scheduled dose. In this case, rather skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose.
Premarin can cause dizziness which may intensify if taken in conjunction with alcohol and other medications. Premarin is to be used with caution. In the early stages of treatment avoid driving or performing any potentially dangerous activity in case of an adverse reaction. Premarin is only to be used by the person for whom is was prescribed. If symptoms persist, or get worse, contact your doctor immediately. Do not use Premarin to treat any other conditions.
