Neurontin is used to treat epileptic seizures. It is also prescribed as a pain-killer for Herpes Zoster (shingles) and other conditions as determined by a doctor.
Neurontin should be used in strict accordance with a doctor’s directions. Neurontin does not have to be taken with food. Do not take any antacids containing magnesium or aluminum for two hours after a dose of Neurontin. Do not stop using Neurontin suddenly – this may cause serious side-effects such as seizures. Your doctor will prescribe a lower dosage. Your doctor will also decide if Neurontin needs to be replaced with a different medication.
If a dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as you remember, as long as it does not clash with the next scheduled dose. In this case, rather skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose.
Neurontin can cause vision problems, dizziness or drowsiness which may intensify if taken in conjunction with alcohol and other medications. Neurontin is to be used with caution. In the early stages of treatment do not drive or perform any potentially dangerous activity in case of an adverse reaction. If symptoms persist, or get worse, contact a doctor immediately. Neurontin should only be used by the person for whom it was prescribed. Never increase or decrease the dosage without your doctor’s permission.
