Depakote is used to control epileptic seizures, migraine headaches and Bipolar Disorder (manic depression). It is also used for other conditions as determined by a doctor.
Depakote is to be used in strict accordance with a doctor’s directions. Depakote should be taken with food to avoid stomach upsets. The tablet is to be swallowed whole – do not break, crush or chew the tablet. For best results take the dosage at the same time every day. Do not stop using the drug without speaking to a doctor, even if there is a significant improvement in your condition.
If a dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as you remember, as long as it does not clash with the next scheduled dose. In this case, rather skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose.
Side-effects of Depakote include vision problems, dizziness and drowsiness which may intensify if taken in conjunction with alcohol and other medications. Depakote is to be used with caution. In the early stages of dosage avoid driving or performing potentially dangerous tasks in case of an adverse reaction. If symptoms persist, or get worse, contact your doctor immediately. Depakote should only be used by the person for whom it was prescribed. Never increase or decrease the dosage without first consulting a doctor.
