Lasix
Lasix is a loop diuretic (also called a water pill) used to treat hypertension and fluid retention.
The drug works by limiting the amount of salt and fluids absorbed by the body. The excess leaves the body through urination.
Lasix is a popular treatment for hypertension (high blood pressure). Hypertension is caused by a number of conditions. Stress is a major factor. When a person is stressed, the blood flow to the arteries becomes too strong and blood pressure rises. Stress often leads to bad habits like smoking and drinking alcohol, both of which increase hypertension. A lack of exercise can also cause hypertension.
In the case of fluid retention, Lasix works by enabling the body to get rid of excess amounts of fluids and salt. Fluid retention can be caused by a number of conditions, some of which are not serious (hormonal changes during menstruation and hot weather), while some are very serious (heart, liver or kidney disease). Symptoms of fluid retention are swollen ankles, feet or hands, as well as weight gain or fluctuations in weight.
Lasix is prescribed by doctors to treat a number of other medical conditions.
When using Lasix, you may want to urinate more often. If this disturbs your sleep, take the dose before 6pm.
In the early stages of treatment with Lasix you might experience vision problems or dizziness. These side-effects usually disappear quickly, but if they persist contact your doctor. Do not let anyone else use your medication.
