Bactrim
Bactrim is a combination of the antibiotics, sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Bactrim is used to treat a number of bacterial infections that include UTIs (urinary tract infections), bronchitis, ear infections, intestinal infections and a certain type of pneumonia. Bactrim is available in tablet and liquid form.
Bactrim is not successful in the treatment of viral infections such as flu and colds.
When using the liquid form of Bactrim shake the bottle vigorously before dispensing the dose into the measuring receptacle. Drink the medicine with a glass of water. If treatment is causing an upset stomach, take future doses with milk or food. It is very important to drink lots of fluids while using Bactrim to keep your kidneys working well. Lack of fluids can result in kidney stones.
You may find that you feel really well after using Bactrim for a short time. If this is the case, under no circumstances should you stop treatment. To ensure that the bacterial infection clears up completely it is necessary to continue the entire course as prescribed by the doctor. The reason for this is, if the infection is not fully eradicated, the bacteria could return. If this happens the effectiveness of Bactrim could be seriously reduced. Antibiotics are most effective when administered regularly so try to maintain an evenly paced dosage schedule.
If you suffer any of the following conditions you should discuss the risks of using Bactrim with your doctor: allergies, asthma, AIDS, liver or kidney disorders.
